Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Fieldnote. By creating a workspace you agree to them on behalf of yourself and, if applicable, your organization.

01The service

Fieldnote records, transcribes, and organizes customer research. We'll run it with professional care, tell you honestly when something breaks, and publish real changes in the changelog. Trials are free for 14 days and don't require payment details.

02Your content

Everything your workspace stores remains yours. You grant us only the license needed to operate the service — to store, process, transcribe, and display your content to your workspace. You're responsible for having the right to record and upload what you bring, including participant consent where required.

03Acceptable use

Don't use Fieldnote to record people unlawfully, to violate others' privacy or intellectual property, to probe or disrupt the service, or to resell access. We may suspend accounts that put other customers or participants at risk, and we'll tell you why.

04Billing

Paid plans bill monthly or yearly in advance and renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel any time; access runs to the end of the paid period. If we ever change prices, existing subscriptions keep their price for at least six months.

05Ending the agreement

You can leave whenever you like — export your data first; it stays available for 30 days after cancellation. We may terminate for material breach with 30 days' notice (immediately for serious abuse), refunding any unused prepaid period where the breach is ours.

06Liability

The service is provided "as is." To the extent the law allows, our total liability in any 12-month period is capped at the fees you paid us in that period, and neither of us is liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing here limits liability that can't lawfully be limited.

07Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email workspace owners at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use Fieldnote after that date means you accept the new terms.
